Backup Release 1.13
Release Date: 13th May 2026
At a glance
This release brings three major performance improvements (faster initial backups, parallel-processing restorations, and more reliable delta backup queueing) plus eight targeted reliability fixes.
The first two performance improvements are configured per tenant by CloudM.
The delta queueing fix and all reliability fixes apply automatically.
Performance Features
Faster initial backups (Configured per tenant — available on request)
Multithreading on the import process has been increased. High-volume accounts complete first-time backups significantly sooner, particularly for Chat- and Drive-heavy users.
Parallel processing for restoration jobs (Configured per tenant — available on request)
Restoration now uses multithreading for the first time. Restore operations for high-volume accounts run substantially faster — a major improvement for any time-sensitive recovery scenario.
Improved delta backup queueing
Resolved an issue where the same backup job could be queued multiple times before completing. Reduces duplicate processing and makes scheduled deltas run more predictably at scale. Applies automatically to all customers.
Reliability Fixes
Hangouts attachment downloads
Initial backup no longer fails when downloading Google Hangouts attachments. Addresses authentication and response-handling edge cases that previously caused some Hangouts data to be skipped.
Mail delta backup stability
Resolved a Cloud Run service crash (signal 11) that occasionally interrupted Mail delta backups. Delta jobs now complete more reliably for high-volume Mail accounts.
Contact sync token handling
Fixed a case where delta backups failed when the contact sync token couldn't be found. Backup now recovers gracefully and re-establishes the sync.
Statistics datastore writes
Resolved an "AlreadyExists" error that occurred when writing backup statistics. Improves the accuracy of internal reporting.
Backup frequency hotfix
A small number of domains were running on previous frequency settings rather than their current configuration. Resolved — all domains now run on the frequency defined in their active Backup policy.
Restoration status page permissions
User roles now correctly prevent users from seeing other users' restoration status. Resolves a permissions edge case on the Backup restoration status page.
Initial Chat backup restart handling
Improved handling for restarted initial Chat backups, including better behaviour when restarting over a long history window.
Paused delta backup recovery
Resolved an issue causing some delta backups to remain in a paused state after a previous interruption. Paused deltas now resume cleanly on the next scheduled run.
Backup Release 1.12
Release Date: 10th March 2026
Enhancement: Submit Failed Initial Backups in Bulk
When the Initial Failed Backups filter is active, you can now select multiple items and retry them in bulk. Note that a failed initial backup will prevent delta backups from starting and the overall job will be marked as failed.
Note: This feature is available via CloudM Labs. Please send your request for CloudM Labs via the settings tab to enable you to switch on this feature. Any feedback is also welcome.

Enhancement: Automatic Retry of Failed Initial Backups After 24 Hours
Failed initial backups will automatically retry once after 24 hours, provided no manual intervention has taken place. An initial backup is also triggered when a policy is assigned or changed.

Enhancement: Backup Status Page — Export to CSV
Backup status data can now be exported to CSV via email or directly to Drive, capped at 10,000 rows. The Export button is permission-based and respects any active filters.

Enhancement: Restoration Status Page — UI Updates
The user side panel now displays three timestamp fields: Initial Backup Date (renamed), Restoration Selected Date (new), and Restoration Completed (new).
Enhancement: Google Drive — Folders with Limited Access
CloudM Archive & Backup now supports Google Drive's Limited Access feature, ensuring restricted folder permissions are correctly captured and restored. In some cases, restored files may appear wrapped in a folder — this is expected and required to correctly enforce Google's access rules.

Enhancement: Domain Wide Delegation Validation
We have introduced enhanced validation for Domain Wide Delegation. The system will now proactively check if the service account has the correct scopes authorized, ensuring backup continuity and preventing permission-related failures. If the scopes are missing the user is able to update the scopes via the Domain page.
