Migrating File Paths from Non-Windows Environments

If you need to migrate file paths from a Linux or other non-Windows client using CloudM Migrate, you must first make those paths accessible from the Windows server where CloudM Migrate is installed. Our recommended method is to use a Samba share.

What is Samba?

Samba is a third-party, open-source implementation of the SMB and Active Directory protocols for Linux and UNIX-like systems. It allows file shares on your non-Windows machine to be accessed by a Windows server, making it possible to configure a migration from a Linux environment. You can learn more at samba.org.

Step 1: Create a Samba Share

First, configure your Linux or non-Windows client to share the desired file paths using a Samba share. This will make the paths visible and accessible over the network.

Step 2: Map the Network Drive

Once the Samba share is active, you can then map it as a network drive on the CloudM Migrate server. For detailed instructions on this process, please refer to our dedicated guide on Configuring Mapped Network Drives

Step 3: Configure your File System Migration

After the network drive is mapped, you can configure your migration job in CloudM Migrate to pull data from the mapped drive. Choose the relevant guide below based on your source and destination platforms:
