This article explains how CloudM Automate subscriptions work, including how they are consumed, released, and reassigned.
CloudM Automate
CloudM Automate is licensed on an annual subscription basis. Your subscription tier determines which features and modules are available to you. Refer to What's included in your CloudM Automate tier for a full breakdown.
How subscriptions work
One subscription is required per user or Shared Drive to whom you apply any Automate feature, regardless of their status (active, suspended, archived, etc.). You do not need to purchase subscriptions for your entire domain — only for the users and/or Shared Drives you intend to manage using CloudM Automate.
Reassigning subscriptions
A subscription remains consumed for as long as CloudM Automate is actively applied to the relevant user or Shared Drive. If a user is deleted from Google Workspace, or you otherwise stop managing a user or Shared Drive through CloudM Automate, the subscription is released and can be reassigned.
Archived users
For archived users, the subscription remains consumed for as long as the archived data remains in your Google Cloud Storage (GCS) bucket. Restoring an archived user does not release the subscription, but permanently deleting (purging) the data from the bucket does.
Note: you may not archive a single user's data more than 5 times.
Email Signatures
How subscriptions work
One subscription is required per Gmail user to whom you apply any Email Signature feature. You do not need to purchase subscriptions for your entire domain — only for the users to whom you intend to apply Email Signature features.
Reassigning subscriptions
A subscription remains consumed for as long as any Email Signature feature is actively applied to the relevant user. If a user is deleted from Google Workspace, or you otherwise stop applying Email Signature features to a user, the subscription is released and can be reassigned.
