Migrating From Zimbra

This article provides a high-level overview of supported data types and entity combinations when migrating from Zimbra to Google Workspace or Microsoft 365.

1. Supported Migration Entities

CloudM Migrate supports the migration of Users and Resource Calendars. Use the matrix below to identify which data types can be migrated based on your specific migration path.

Migration Entity Combination Mail Contacts Calendar Tasks Drive Notes
User → User
User → Resource
User → Group
Resource → User
Resource → Resource
NOTE: Shared Folders
CloudM supports the migration of Zimbra Shared Folders (previously referred to as "Public Folders"). Ensure these are shared correctly at the source to be identified during the migration process.

2. Technical Considerations

To ensure data integrity and set expectations for the destination environment, please review the following technical behaviors:

  • Conversations/Threading: Zimbra "Conversations" are not migrated as native threaded objects. CloudM Migrate migrates individual email messages; once they arrive at the destination (Google or Microsoft), the platform’s native threading logic will group them based on subject lines and metadata headers.
  • Drive/Briefcase: Please note that Zimbra Briefcase (Drive) items are currently not supported for migration.
  • Permissions: The migration admin account requires specific privileges (Domain or Global). Please refer to the administrative configuration guide below.

3. Configuration Path

Setting up your migration involves three primary stages. Follow these links in order to complete your environment setup:

  1. General Preparation: Start with the Migration Guide.
  2. Zimbra Server Setup: Follow the guide to Zimbra: Configuring the Zimbra Admin Account (CLI).
  3. Connection Setup: Establish your Source Connection and Destination Connection.
  4. Source Migration Settings: Finalize your Source Platform Settings.

TIP: After completing the Destination Connection, return to the Migration Guide to proceed.
