Normally, you should use the default SQL Server Express Instance that is installed with CloudM Migrate when installing a primary service. Using an existing SQL Server Instance should only be done in large migrations or when installing a secondary service.
When you are installing secondary services you should also use an existing SQL Server Instance, but please follow the instructions for setting up a secondary server.
In some cases for large migrations, and especially when producing Drive document mappings, you may need to use full SQL Server rather than SQL Server Express which is installed by default with CloudM Migrate. Versions above 2012 (Standard and Enterprise) are supported - not including v.2012. Contact the support team if you are storing Drive document mappings or running a large migration, and need assistance.
It is highly recommended that the SQL instance is installed on the CloudM Migrate Primary server and that the primary server is highly specified with a powerful CPU and lots of memory. If using an independent server see here.
The following instructions apply when installing either a primary or secondary server and you would like to use an existing SQL Server Instance.
Prerequisites
Before you proceed with the installation you must ensure that you have credentials and permissions setup correctly on your database so that CloudM Migrate can operate correctly. Please follow the instructions as detailed in the documentation regarding configuring an existing SQL Server Instance.
If you choose to use your own SQL Server instance, you must follow the instructions to configure a user and permissions for your existing SQL Server before installing CloudM Migrate.
