How to Restore Archived Data

This article guides you through the process of restoring archived data in CloudM Automate. You can choose to restore specific individual items or perform a full restoration of a user's data.

Please select the type of restoration you wish to perform below:

Item Restoration

Use this option if you need to recover specific emails, files, or chats for a specific user, rather than a user's entire archive.

  1. Navigate to Archive > Item Restoration.
  2. Select the user whose data you wish to restore.

  3. Select the tab for the data type you want to view: Mail, Drive, or Chat.
    • Note: You can only restore one data type at a time.
    • Chat Data Types:
      • New Google Chat: Standard restoration (see steps below).
      • Legacy Archived Chat: Displayed under the Mail tab with a "Chat" label. These are restored as emails containing transcripts (up to 500 messages per email). Learn more about Legacy Chat.
      • Vault Data: Items archived from Vault appear in the Mail and Drive tabs with a specific "Vault" label.
  4. Filter your view: Use the search fields, date ranges, or folder selectors to find specific items. (Refer to the Searchable Metadata section below for available filters).
  5. Select items to restore:
    • Check the box next to the items you want to recover.
    • For Drive, click a folder name to view and select its contents.
    • Use the master checkbox at the top to Select All (entire archive) or Select all on page.
  6. Click the Restore [x] items button.
  7. In the confirmation pop-up, configure the restore destination:

    • Mail: Select the destination User and the Label to apply.

    • Drive: Select the destination User and the Folder name.

    • Chat: Select the destination User and choose the restore format (Restore to Google Drive or Download locally).

      • Note: Both Chat options generate an HTML file.

  8. Click Restore.

You can track the progress in the Archive > Restoration Status section.

Full Restoration

Use this option to restore all data, or all data within a data range, for a user.

  1. Navigate to Archive > Full Restoration.
  2. Select the user whose archived data you want to restore.

  3. (Optional) Filter the data by a specific Date range using the calendar picker.
  4. Select the Destination User (the account where data will be restored).
  5. Select the data types to restore (Mail, Drive, or Chat). By default, Mail and Drive are selected.

    • Chat: Select the destination User and choose the restore format (Restore to Google Drive or Download locally).
