This article addresses a common error encountered during OneDrive migrations with CloudM Migrate, explaining its cause and providing solutions for successful provisioning.
Problem: OneDrive Provisioning Error
During a migration to OneDrive, CloudM Migrate returns the following error message:
Unable to locate user properties. Is the user provisioned in SharePoint?
Cause
This error occurs because the target OneDrive site has not yet been provisioned for the user in Microsoft 365, even though the user account itself exists. OneDrive sites are inherently tied to SharePoint user profiles.
Solution: Provisioning OneDrive Sites
To resolve this issue, you must ensure that the OneDrive site is provisioned for the affected user(s). There are two primary methods:
-
User Self-Provisioning:
- The simplest way to provision a user's OneDrive site is for the user to sign in to OneDrive directly.
- This action triggers the automatic creation of their personal OneDrive site.
-
Bulk Provisioning for All Users (Recommended for Migrations):
- For larger migrations, you can provision OneDrive sites for all users simultaneously.
- Follow the instructions in this guide for detailed steps on how to achieve this, often involving PowerShell.
Important Considerations
- Propagation Delay: When provisioning OneDrive sites, especially when using PowerShell for bulk provisioning, there will be a propagation delay.
- Allow Time: It is crucial to allow sufficient time for the provisioning process to complete across Microsoft 365 before attempting the migration again. Attempting to migrate before provisioning is complete will likely result in the same error.
