The information below is for when configuring Microsoft Exchange or Office 365 as source or destination platform for a migration.
Account Details
- Autodiscovery Service URL – In order to connect to the correct server that a user’s data may be stored on, autodiscovery is used to obtain the server information. Input the URL to the autodiscovery service for your domain. The default value is a general address than can usually be used to resolve server addresses on Office 365. You should edit this as appropriate to point at your autodiscovery server if migrating to Exchange 2007/2010/2013/2016 and an example URL may be https://server/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml.
- Note: If using on-premise autodiscovery, you should ensure that it is setup correctly and autodiscovery resolves addresses that are available over the network from the migration tool.
- Direct Exchange EWS URL – in some cases, you may know the direct URL to your Exchange EWS endpoint. If this is the case, enter the Exchange Web Services endpoint on that server. If this is provided, autodiscovery is not used. An example URL for this setting could be: https://server/ews/exchange.asmx.
- Note: For Office 365 you should use autodiscovery and not specify anything for this setting.
- Note: For BPOS you should use one of the Outlook Web Access URLs but replace /owa on the end with /ews/exchange.asmx
- Note: The direct address should usually always end with /ews/exchange.asmx
- Admin Email – provide the full email address of an admin user for the domain when migrating from Office 365, or the admin name in the format ‘domain\user name’ when migrating from on-premise Exchange.
- Admin Password – the password of the admin user.
- Domain Name – provide the domain name you will be migrating from. If you have users in different domains, you should perform several migrations, specifying one domain at a time and processing the users from that domain. This should be the Internet domain name, not the local domain name.
- Test User Name – provide an email address or the first part of a users email address (before the ‘@’ symbol) who is already present in the system. This is used to test connections in the connection tester when the ‘Credential Method’ is Impersonation or Delegation.
- Public Folder User Name – the primary SMTP address of a user that will be used when performing Public Folder migrations.
- Authentication Method – select the authentication method that will be used to communicate with the server. For Microsoft 365 and Exchange migrations, select Modern to use the Modern Authentication (Multi-Factor Authentication) option. For on-premise Exchange 2007/2010/2013/2016 migrations set this option to one of the authentication methods available for the EWS service. ‘Negotiate’ can be specified for on-premise migrations to request that the tool uses the best authentication method available and is recommended.
- Use Workstation Credentials – use the credentials of the logged in user rather than the provided credentials. Use this for NTLM, Kerberos or other authentication methods which require the Windows identity.
- Credential Method – if you have setup Application Impersonation as described earlier in this document then you should specify Impersonation for this setting. If you have not setup Application Impersonation (or cannot use it for some reason), then choose either Delegated Access (for BPOS for example) or User Credentials. If using User Credentials then the user’s passwords on the Users tab must be correct.
OneDrive for Business/Sharepoint
- Sharepoint Admin Url – the URL for the sharepoint admin center. Go to https://portal.office.com/adminportal/home#/homepage Admin Centers/Sharepoint. It should look like this example: https://tenant-admin.sharepoint.com
- Note: This is only required when you are migrating to/from OneDrive and/or you are migrating all/oversized attachments to OneDrive for Business.
- Hybrid Environment – allows a custom 'SharePoint Admin Url' and 'SharePoint My Sites Url' to be entered for Hybrid migration (see documentation).
- Retry Count – the number of times an operation will be tried before failing when making requests to sharepoint.
- Timeout – the timeout for operations with the sharepoint server.
Public Folders
- Include Public Folders in User List – specify if public folders will be included when getting a list of users from an Exchange server.
Transfer Settings
- Retry Count – the number of times to retry an operation with the server before failing.
- Max Wait Time – specify the maximum time that a wait operation can wait between exponential backoff retry attempts.
- Timeout – the timeout for operations with the server.
- Use X-AnchorMailbox Header – when using application impersonation as the credential method then include this header to improve performance.
Office 365 Groups
Please review the following documentation on how to register an app in Azure.
- Client Id – can be obtained by registering an application under 'App registrations' in Azure Active Directory.
- Client Secret – can be obtained by registering an application under 'App registrations' in Azure Active Directory.
- Test Office 365 Group Email – the email address of a Office 365 group that already exists.
- Retry Count – the number of times an operation will be attempted before failing.
- Timeout – the timeout for operations with the server.
