CloudM Migrate provides a way of performing migrations across multiple servers. Using CloudM Migrate in this way can scale your migrations to a huge scale, all controlled from a single user interface on one machine. True multi-server migrations at a massive scale are possible. There may also be situations where it is more appropriate to run CloudM Migrate on a single server.
Single-Server Installation and Migration
If you have a small number of users to be migrated, a small amount of data, or are testing CloudM Migrate, then you may often want to perform migration from a single server with no multi-server options. In this case simply choose the Basic installation type when running the installer. This will install all components required to run CloudM Migrate on a single server and allows you get quickly up and running.

When performing single-server migrations the following points are applicable:
- Migrations are all controlled from the servers where CloudM Migrate in installed. You must log into each server to administer the migration.
- Log files and report files are produced on the servers where CloudM Migrate is installed.
- Scaling of migrations can be achieved by installing more instances of CloudM Migrate on more servers, but they must be administered separately.
Multi-Server Installation and Migration
If you have a large number of users or data and want to achieve maximum migration performance you should install using the 'Advanced' installation type and distribute a migration of users over multiple servers by installing a 'secondary Service Installation' on each server. When running a multi-server migration farm with CloudM Migrate you can connect many servers together where a master server can control the migration on any number of secondary servers, all controlled by one user interface. Running CloudM Migrate in this way is an incredibly efficient way of performing migrations at scale and can reduce both your administrative overhead and your migration times significantly.

When performing multi-server migrations the following points are applicable:
- All migration is controlled from a single user interface on a single server.
- Report files are produced centrally for all migrations.
- Log files for individual user migrations are produced on the secondary server that performed that user migration (usually only needed if something goes wrong). CloudM Migrate includes tools for directly opening connections to secondary servers.
- Scaling of migrations can be achieved by installing more secondary servers. These can be added dynamically, even while a migration is in progress and CloudM Migrate will automatically allocate users to migrate to the servers. Generally, no administration is required of the secondary servers.
