Google Workspace AU License Migration FAQ

This article clarifies the technical limitations and requirements when migrating data involving Google Workspace Archive User (AU) licenses.

Migration Constraints

Data cannot be imported directly to a user holding an AU license. To migrate data intended for archiving, the destination account must remain in an Active state with a standard license throughout the duration of the migration process. Once the migration is verified as complete, the AU license may be (re)applied.

Vault Migration Requirements

When utilizing the alternative to migrate data directly to Google Vault, the destination user account must be Active. Migration to Vault will fail if the destination user is suspended or incorrectly licensed at the time of ingestion.
