CloudM Migrate provides functionality to migrate document version history from Google Workspace (My Drive and Shared Drives) to OneDrive and SharePoint in Microsoft 365. This feature allows users to access previous versions of their files within the new destination environment.
What Version History is Migrated?
CloudM Migrate supports the migration of major document versions only.
- Migrated:
- My Drive major document version history.
- Shared Drive major document version history.
- Not Migrated:
- Minor document versions are not currently supported for migration.
How to Enable Version History Migration
To migrate document version history, configure the following settings in CloudM Migrate:
-
Navigate to Destination Platform Settings:
- Go to Step 2 (Destination Platform) > Advanced Settings > SharePoint Online.
-
Enable Version Migration:
- Enable the option: "Migrate previous document versions".
-
Select Number of Versions:
- From the dropdown menu, choose the desired number of previous document versions to migrate for each file.
- Available Options: 5, 10, 15, 25, or All.
Important Considerations and Best Practices
- Rate Limiting with Small Files:
- If you have a large number of smaller files, you might experience rate limiting from the destination platform, which can cause version migrations to fail.
- Resolution: Increase the
Item Export Delay
setting in Step 4 (Config Settings) > Advanced Settings > System. - Recommendation: Start with a setting of
4000
milliseconds.
- Modifying Version Settings During Delta Migrations:
- Caution: Altering the "number of previous document versions" setting between migrations (especially during a delta migration) will cause destination documents to be replaced.
- Recommendation: It is strongly advisable not to modify this setting while a delta migration is in progress, particularly if users are actively utilizing the destination environment.
- Migration Duration:
- Migrating previous versions of documents will significantly extend the overall migration duration.
- Opting to migrate all versions from the source can substantially prolong the migration timeframe. Plan your migration window accordingly.
