Moving Data Between Google Cloud Storage (GCS) Buckets in CloudM Archive

Key Consideration for Data Movement

If you need to move data between GCS buckets, it is crucial that you have not deleted the users whose data you intend to move. This ensures the system retains the necessary references to re-process and move their data.

Steps to Move Data to a New GCS Bucket

To move data for existing users to a new GCS bucket, effectively migrating their archived data, follow these steps:

  1. Set Retention Period on Old Bucket:
    • Edit the retention policy on your old GCS bucket.
    • Set the retention period to 1 day for each object type within that bucket. This will initiate the purge process for the data.
  2. Wait for Data Purge:
    • Allow sufficient time for the data in the old bucket to be completely purged according to the 1-day retention policy. This process could take several days, depending on the volume of data in the bucket and referenced in the CloudM Archive database.
  3. Disconnect the Old Bucket:
    • Once you are certain the data has been purged, disconnect the old GCS bucket from your CloudM Archive configuration.
  4. Connect a New Bucket and Resume Archiving:
    • Connect your new GCS bucket to CloudM Archive.
    • You can then start archiving users into this new bucket. For users whose data was previously in the old bucket, CloudM Archive will now archive their data into the newly connected bucket.
